Those of you who are into gaming might know that yesterday was Nintendo’s looooooooooooooooong-awaited presentation of the brand-new Legend of Zelda game, titled oh-so-beautifully: Breath of the Wild. Those of you who know me might know that Legend of Zelda is my favorite game series of all time.
I was a bit ambivalent about the game to come, skeptical because of the gorgeous but sort of uninspiring initial first look video in 2014, ridiculously excited still because a LoZ game never disappoints.
And you know what? THE NEW GAME LOOKS AMAAAAHHHHHHHHZING.
(Or if you’d like to see the entire stream, https://www.twitch.tv/nintendo/v/72391082)
Anyway, I was totally into the spirit of LoZ, so while I was watching, I started absent-mindedly sketching the game’s main protagonist, Link.
When I finally looked up after sketching away for a while, I was sort of proud of myself. I’d never attempted to sketch Link without some sort of game art to help guide me. But this one actually seemed a half decent representation of Hyrule’s hero!
Self-indulgently intrigued by my own progress, I kept at the sketch, coloring it in with some watercolor.
It probably wasn’t the wisest decision since I was drawing in a regular sketchbook with no paper weight to support all the water, especially color lifting (Link’s ears… :[). I definitely overestimated my skills when I told myself I’d use only minimal water for the task.
After f*cking up Link’s ears (again, :[), I wasn’t about to risk any more color lifting with all the bleed on his hat. So I just cut.
…and then pasted him up on my wall:
