I hear Moleskine, Moleskine around a lot, and at first dismissed the hype as good marketing and brand recognition. After all, there were plenty of other pocket sketchbooks that were much cheaper, and I liked spiral wirebound ones better anyway.
And then I started checking out Kenneth Rocafort‘s sketch a day mission on Instagram and I discovered that Moleskine includes a watercolor edition.
135 lb paper! In a pocket sketchbook!
I’m pleasantly surprised so far with the quality of the notebook and its paper. It’s actually been easier to sketch on (and erase!) than the Strathmore 400 series watercolor paper I’ve been using for my watercolors. And Moleskine wasn’t lying when they said these books are easy to open flat, even though they don’t look it at all.
I haven’t gotten around to actually painting on these guys yet, but I’ll let you know how it goes when I color this doodle in.
